Overview

One of the more prominent features of the face has always been the cheeks. Cheekbones enhance the shape of the face and bring balance in conjunction with other facial features. As children, we all have high, prominent cheekbones, but as we grow, our faces change, and we can lose them. Cheek Implant Surgery is a great way to give fullness to flat cheekbones and add more overall projection to the face.

Description

Cheek Implant Surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to restore or enhance the prominence of cheekbones. This procedure adds fullness to flat cheekbones and improves the overall projection and balance of the face. It is commonly chosen by individuals seeking to rejuvenate their facial features and achieve a more youthful appearance.

Consultation

During the consultation, the specific goals and expectations of the patient will be discussed. The patient will understand the procedure, its benefits, and its risks, ensuring they have a clear expectation of the outcome and any potential complications.

Procedure

Cheek Implant Surgery begins with an incision on the inside of the mouth. The steps are as follows:
  • Incision: An incision is made where the cheek meets the upper gum.
  • Pocket Creation: The skin is separated from the underlying tissue to create a pocket.
  • Implant Insertion: The cheek implant is inserted into the pocket and placed either on or directly below the existing cheekbone.
  • Closure: The incision is closed with sutures. The procedure is often performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, allowing the surgeon to insert the cheek implant through an incision made for a different procedure.

After Surgery

  • Anesthesia and Sedatives: Most surgeons use a local anesthetic combined with sedatives, numbing the area around the mouth and cheeks while keeping the patient awake.
  • Post-Procedure Care: Bandages are applied to the cheeks to minimize swelling and discomfort. Soreness may be experienced as the anesthetic wears off but can be controlled with pain medication.
  • Recovery Time: The surgery takes 30 minutes to an hour and is an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day.
  • Activity Restrictions: Patients should limit activity for about a month after the surgery to ensure the face is not bumped or harmed in any way.
  • Suture Removal: Sutures will either dissolve or be taken out about 10 days after the surgery. By then, swelling and bruising should be significantly reduced, and the cheeks should start looking more normal. Mild swelling may persist for several months but will be very minor and hardly noticeable.

Results

Cheek Implant Surgery results in a more sculptured and balanced appearance of the mid-face. The changes enhance the overall facial aesthetics, providing a fuller and more youthful look.

Complications

  • Persistent Swelling: Mild swelling may persist for several months.
  • Temporary Numbness: Temporary diminished ability to move lips and mouth.
  • Prolonged Recovery: Recovery may be prolonged if performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures.
  • General Risks: As with any surgery, there are risks of bleeding, infection, poor healing, etc.
